Bilingual/Bicultural Service Coordination helps individuals
whose language and/or culture creates a barrier to accessing
needed mental health and substance abuse services. It also facilitates
entry of non-English speaking persons needing treatment into
community-based facilities prior to escalation into a crisis
requiring emergency protective custody.
Services provided by this program:
- Information and referral
- Case management
- Crisis support
- Translation and interpretation
- Community presentations in Spanish on mental health disorders
- Community presentations for service providers on cultural
competency and working with the Latino/Hispanic population
Spanish speaking persons in need of mental health services
can contact or be referred to the El Centro de las Americas.
A representative from Lutheran Family Services will connect the
client with the appropriate mental health services in the community.
Lutheran Family Services provides the following specialized
services:
- Outpatient mental health counseling
- Intensive outpatient substance abuse counseling
- Adolescent outpatient substance abuse counseling
- Adoption
- Pregnancy counseling
- Parenting classes
- Family And Community Education Services
Since clients may be referred to other agencies, service costs
vary. Clients should review their insurance policy to see if
it covers therapeutic services. If a client does not have insurance,
costs are determined on a sliding fee scale.
What is covered in the community presentation for providers?
The presentation equips providers with information on the
different Hispanic cultures and how to best work with them. In
the presentation you will be given the following:
- Up to date statistics on the Hispanic/Latino population
- Ideas on how to become more culturally aware
- Tips you can use to better connect with your Hispanic/Latino clients
- Useful information on what the law says about providing services for Hispanics
- A list of the Spanish speaking providers in the community
If you are interested in scheduling a presentation for a staff
meeting, an employee training, or a high school or college classroom,
contact the El Centros de las Americas and ask to speak with the
Bilingual/Bicultural Service Coordinator.
Subsidy funds for this program are received from Region V Systems and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
