Urgent Outpatient Mental Health Care
Locations | Experts | How You Can Help This Program
The Urgent Outpatient Mental Health Care program is a community-based service for indigent or non-insured persons in crisis.
Individuals must be referred to this program by a community professional (private physician, hospital, case worker, pastor, etc.) who has determined that a mental health crisis exists and that timely intervention is necessary to avoid a major crisis. Our urgent care phone number, different from the phone number listed below, is only available to referring community professionals. Individuals needing urgent mental health services cannot contact this program directly.
Program Goals:
- Offer a timely and responsive mental health assessment and intervention to non-insured persons in crisis.
- Reduce hospital and regional center placements.
Urgent Outpatient referrals are appropriate for:
- Adults 19 years and older.
- Residents of Sarpy, Cass, Dodge, Washington and Douglas counties.
- Ambulatory persons determined not to be in imminent danger.
- Persons manageable without 24-hour supervision.
How is Urgent Outpatient Mental Health Care accessed?
- The referring professional calls the 24-hour response line.
- A mental health assessment with a master's level clinician will be scheduled within 24 hours of call.
- Clients needing to see a psychiatrist to reduce symptoms will be scheduled for this within 72 hours of the initial urgent care assessment.
- Continued outpatient services will be provided until stabilization.
- Community referrals will be made for appropriate follow-up care.
This service is not:
- A 24-hour crisis line.
- A resource for persons currently under the care of a therapist or psychiatrist.
- A resource for persons who have mental health insurance coverage.
