National Anxiety and Depression Awareness Week, May 2-8
Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska serves those in need of mental
health care across the State
Each year more than 40 million Americans will suffer with an anxiety disorder
and over 20 million will suffer from some type of depressive illness. The cost
to the economy of these illnesses is billions of dollars each year; the cost
in human suffering is immeasurable.
As a leader in behavioral health services in Nebraska, Lutheran Family Services
of Nebraska (LFS) provides professional treatment to those
individuals suffering from anxiety and depression on a daily basis. LFS provides
multiple levels of care including: general mental health counseling; urgent
care services for those experiencing severe and persistent mental illness;
intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment; emergency crisis response in
Douglas county in coordination with law enforcement; trauma treatment and therapeutic
support for active military, veterans and their loved ones; and community support
for those individuals who require more long-term care. In 2009, LFS provided
behavioral health services to over 6,700 individuals in offices
from as far west as North Platte to the Omaha metropolitan area in the east…and
many lives have been saved in the process.
Amy Richardson, LFS Vice President of Program, says “Anxiety and depression
are treatable diseases. Lutheran Family Services has experts that offer treatment
to help reduce or eliminate these problems. This week is important to recognize
that once anxiety and depression are identified, there is help. We continue
to respond to the changing human care needs of communities and work hard to
improve the mental health of thousands across the State.”
