Each pumpkin represents a Nebraska child waiting for adoption

September 27, 2013 (Omaha) — For the fifth year a great pumpkin tree will “rise” over the
Village Pointe Center Court! This month-long community event raises awareness for the
children and teenagers in Nebraska’s foster care system, 913 of whom are eligible and
waiting to be adopted.

Wednesday, October 2nd – Volunteers from Kiewit will construct the framework for the 17-foot
tree. Guild volunteers will then “plant” 913 pumpkins on its “branches.”

Saturday, October 26 – A full day of fun and a chance to learn about the desperate need for foster
and adoptive families – especially those who can give a teenager a loving home. (Family-friendly
costumes encouraged)

10:00am to 2:00pm Free Family Festival and Pumpkin Carving – Pumpkin pie-eating contest,
music and entertainment.

1:00pm to 4:00pm Adoption Celebration – Private event/Open to all families celebrating
adoption. RSVP required.

2:00pm to 5:00pm Trick or Treating and children’s activities, courtesy of the Millard South
DECA Club

7:00pm Shining the Light Celebration! The switch will be flipped, and then it gets really cool!

The event is organized by members of the Forever Families Guild, which provides volunteer
support to Children Services at Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska. You can follow Omaha’s
Great Pumpkin on Facebook.
