As a leader for more than 125 years in welcoming refugees and immigrants, children’s services, and behavioral health, Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska is deeply troubled by the separation of families that seek safety in our country.

Lutheran Family Services is committed to strengthening and building families with a mission to express God’s love for all people. We remain steadfast in our mission and vision for safety, hope and well-being for all.

Our team has witnessed the impact trauma has on a person’s life. This is especially true for children. Our neighborhoods and communities bear the weight of that collective trauma.

Please join us on Wednesday June 27, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Stinson Park in Aksarben for a community picnic in solidarity with families facing separation. In response to the despair on the United States’ southern border, and in anticipation of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the travel ban, let us come together and show the world that no matter who you are, where you’re from or how you got here, there is always room at our table for everyone.

Pack a picnic, bring a blanket and join your community in gathering of welcome.

This is not a political event. It transcends politics. This is an opportunity for the community to get to know our neighbors, engage in conversation and build relationships.
