Available Services

  • The Young Family Initiative Program focuses on prevention and early intervention services for expectant mothers and families with young children and is free of charge.

We promote healthy family behaviors through parent education and support, family and community awareness, and early detection and intervention for improved physical and mental health. This program offers individual case management services for caregivers focusing on client-driven goal-setting to increase healthy parenting behaviors.

Families  earn points for participating in activities that increase child and family health, family safety, and family self-sufficiency. Activities include prenatal and well-baby checkups, early literacy programs, and developmental screenings for their children. With earned points, families obtain needed infant and toddler items such as diapers, hygiene items, strollers, cribs, clothing, children’s books, and car seats.

This programming also offers educational support to all families in group parenting classes which include the Nurturing Parenting Program and Circle of Security curriculums. All program offerings are available to clients in English and Spanish.

    Point-earning behaviors include:

    • Well-baby check-ups
    • Immunizations
    • Continuing education
    • Home visits
    • Breastfeeding
    • Parenting classes

Additional services include parenting classes, parenting support groups, memory book classes and community referrals.

  • Lutheran Family Services offers multiple parenting education classes at our Centers for Healthy Families:

The Nurturing Parenting Program is a 16-week class that emphasizes the importance of raising children in a warm, trusting, and caring household. The Nurturing Parenting Program class provides information on child development, age-appropriate expectations, how to create nurturing routines for your children, effective non-violent discipline practices, self-nurturing skills, and stress and anger management.

Circle of Security curriculum is an 8-session parenting class focusing on the attachment and relationship of parent and child and teaching parenting skills of encouragement, support, and acknowledgment.
