A New Americans Networking Program of LFS in Partnership with United Way of the Midlands

Careers and Connections aims to connect established Omaha area professionals with professionals new to the U.S. who are looking to network, share work experiences, and learn more about their career field.

Two options to get involved:

  1. Become a connector! Meet for approximately one hour with a refugee or asylee who is interested in learning more about what you do, then connect that new American to two other people in your professional network who you think would be a good fit.
  2. Become a mentor! Meet with a refugee or asylee who is looking to advance his/her career and could use some guidance through a mentorship program that will span 12 meetings/interactions. The mentor acts as a career coach, encouraging their mentee to identify career goals. Together they create a plan and take action to work toward those goals.

Our vision is to connect open-minded, successful, compassionate people who have similar career interests! The Omaha professional will benefit from meeting and learning from someone outside of their culture, and the new American will learn more about U.S. workplace culture, steps needed to enter certain U.S. career fields, and how to become more integrated into the greater Omaha community. You could have a huge impact on helping a new American get started on their career journey here in Omaha! This will benefit individuals, communities, and the Omaha economy. Let’s connect!
